"I am shaken to the core by the video of the violence against women in Manipur. This is a heinous crime and the perpetrators must be punished severely," Kumar tweeted.
The incident took place on July 15, 2023, in the Imphal West district of Manipur. A group of women were reportedly protesting against the construction of a dam in the area, when they were attacked by a mob of men. The men stripped the women and paraded them naked through the streets.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Manipur and across India. The Manipur government has ordered a probe into the incident, and the National Human Rights Commission has also taken suo motu cognizance of the matter.
Akshay Kumar is not the only Bollywood celebrity to have condemned the violence in Manipur. Several other actors and actresses have also expressed their outrage on social media.
