Manish Malhotra Commences Work on Meena Kumari Biopic, Inspired by Rekha's Confidence
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has embarked on the much-anticipated biopic of the legendary tragedy queen, Meena Kumari. While the lead actress remains under wraps, speculations hint at Kriti Sanon bagging the coveted role. In a recent media interaction, Malhotra spilled the beans about the scripting process and the inspiration behind the Meena Kumari biopic.
Delving into the details of his research, Manish Malhotra emphasized the pivotal role of a strong script in shaping the destiny of a film. He revealed that he extensively studied books on Meena Kumari to gain a deeper understanding of the enigmatic actress. "The script is key, always. I have been reading her books. The film is based on her books," said Malhotra.
Interestingly, it was veteran actress Rekha who served as Manish Malhotra's muse and catalyst for the Meena Kumari biopic. Recounting a conversation with Rekha during his younger days, Malhotra confessed that her wise words had a profound impact on him. "Rekha told me once that you know when you turn 40, you will understand the genius of Meena Kumari. And that is true. When I turned 40, I not only understood the genius of Meena Kumari but even Nargis ji, Dilip Kumar, and Guru Dutt," revealed the designer.
Having received Rekha's vote of confidence, Malhotra expressed his special admiration for Meena Kumari, finding her persona fascinating on multiple levels. He particularly lauded her powerful expressions, hailing her as a "phenomenal" force of nature. "I think Meena Kumari is phenomenal… the way she uses her eyes and her adah," praised Malhotra.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the biopic, controversy loomed when Meena Kumari's son, Tajdar Amrohi, objected to the film's production. Reportedly, he even threatened legal action against Manish Malhotra and Kriti Sanon if the project moved forward.
As the biopic enters its scripting phase, fans eagerly await further updates on the casting and production of this highly-anticipated homage to the iconic Meena Kumari.
